A simple and easy guide to the application process for getting your UAE (Dubai) visa.
South African citizens need a visa to enter the United Arab Emirates. This guide explains the complete visa process. A convenient way to apply for a UAE (Dubai) visa is online via Emirates or Etihad. Alternatively, if you are flying with another airline, you can apply online with a Dubai Visa Authorized Company. There are a few Dubai Visa Authorized Companies in South Africa which are 3rd party visa providers. Overview
Types of Tourist Visas
30-day Single Entry Visa: This visa is for regular tourist purposes. It allows you to stay for up to 30 days in the UAE. This visa is valid for 30 days from arrival.
30-day Multiple Entry Visa: This visa is for regular tourist purposes. It allows you to stay for up to 30 days in the UAE. This visa is valid for 30 days from first entry into the UAE.
60-day Single Entry Visa: This visa is for regular tourist purposes. It allows you to stay for up to 60 days in the UAE. This visa is valid for 60 days from arrival.
60-day Multiple Entry Visa: This visa is for regular tourist purposes. It allows you to stay for up to 60 days in the UAE. This visa is valid for 60 days from first entry into the UAE.
How to Apply
The ideal time to apply is around 1 month before your travel date.
With Emirates/Etihad:
- Apply using the airline’s website
- For Emirates, use the “Manage your booking” function
- Complete their online application form
- Scan and upload the required documents
- Pay for the visa
- Receive your visa online via email (no courier needed)
At Dubai Visa Authorized Company:
- Apply using the website DVSA Global
- Complete the online application form and attach required documents
- Pay the visa fee using the online payment gateway
- Once approved by the UAE immigration which takes on average 5 business days, you will receive an email with your UAE visa attached

UAE Visa Requirements
All Dubai visa have the following requirements:
- Completed Application Form
- 1 colour headshot photograph with white background
- A colour copy of your passport (must be valid for 6 months from date you leave the UAE)
- A copy of your return flight ticket
- Hotel booking confirmation with guest names in PDF format OR Tenancy agreement and Emirates ID of the host
